JOY BAINBOROUGH

JOY BAINBOROUGH

CAREER PROFILE

A thirty-year career in the theatre arts profession on both the stage and in film has culminated in an impressive resumé for Joy Bainborough . Her performances have been widely heralded in publications such as People Magazine, Hollywood Review, Variety New York, MacLeans, the Toronto Star and The Sun newspapers. Joy has appeared in twenty-six national television commercials and has had numerous principal roles in radio and television productions for the CBC.

Joy has graced the stages of major theatres in the Tony Award nominated production of Brian MacDonald's "The Mikado". This production toured North America and England and was presented on Broadway, The Kennedy Centre in Washington, and at a Royal Performance in the Old Vic in London. Joy has been prominently involved in productions at The Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, Stratford (Ontario), the Charlottetown Festival, the Citadel in Edmonton and has had principal roles at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto, The National Arts Centre in Ottawa .... and the list goes on.

Joy's favourite roles have been Katie Brubacher in "The Quiet Land"; Kathy Sheldon in "Singing In The Rain"; Julie Jordan in "Carousel"; Laura in "The Glass Menagerie". She has had major roles in several motion pictures and has worked with Jamie Lee Curtis, Mary Steenburgen, Leslie Nielson among many other hollywood stars.

In addition to her theatre activities, Joy is currently performing in a vocal trio,
"The Clutch Bags" ..... and she is an adjudicator for the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Sears Drama Festival. But when all is said and done, Joy Bainborough's greatest lead role has been as "Mom" to her beautiful and talented daughter, Laura, and "Master" to her delightfully irrepressible dog, Robie.

THEATRE ARTS PROFILE

Over the past fourteen years, Joy Bainborough has created, produced, directed, acted as musical director and choreographed over a dozen new Canadian theatrical revues. These productions were written specifically for her student theatre companies - The Strolling Youth Players and her present enterprise, The Joy of Performing Arts Academy. Thousands of students, as well as seniors and the general public, have enjoyed the efforts of her youthful singers-dancers-actors in these exciting, imaginative and often thought-provoking, shows and cabarets.

As a result of all the training and semi-professional experience, Joy's students have had great success in their careers due to the confidence building, creative thinking and problem-solving skills they have developed within the classroom and at their shows. Many of her students have been immediately accepted into university programmes. Several have gone on to Sheridan College, Ryerson University, Queen's University, Western University .......
and one talented student is on his way to
the Miami Performing Arts College.

Joy is committed to establishing a professional standard for all of her students so that when they choose whether they would like to further their careers in the performing arts, or pursue playing lead roles in local community productions, they will achieve their objectives. As David Fanstone, former Artistic director of the SunShine Festival in Orillia once said, " Joy, I always know when one of your students are auditioning for me. They are completley professional in their auditions and their understanding of theatre decorum."

In a student's early years, Joy likes to carefully develop the child so that, as the years go by, the student comes to completely understand show business with all of its demands and expectations. And for those who just want to experience the three disciplines of theatre arts - but do not intend to pursue a career - the knowledge that successful students will be able to audition for community theatre and always be confident that they will
be successful in their endeavours .....
is an exciting goal in and of itself.
